Major Step Toward Fairness in Dressage Judging

The FEI has ramped up its commitment to ensuring fairness in dressage judging, with the appointment of International O Dressage Judge Ghislain Fouarge to the post of Dressage Judge General.

The creation of this lead judging post is to "ensure greater consistency and accuracy of judging at all levels of Dressage competition". When the proposal for a Judges Supervisory Panel (JSP) was first made, it was suggested the panel would be allowed to correct the judges' marks for factual errors, such as definite technical mistakes.

Ghislain Fouarge, of The Netherlands, was elected at last month's 5* judges seminar in Warendorf. Fouarge has officiated at the top level of the sport, including the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong, the FEI World Equestrian Games 2006 in Aachen (GER), the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010 in Kentucky (USA) and two FEI World Cup Finals.

The first term of office for the Dressage Judge General will be two years, and the position will always be filled by a 5* judge.

"There has traditionally been a top judge chairing the FEI Dressage Committee and this person automatically took the leader role in discussions related to judging," said Trond Asmyr, FEI Director Dressage and Para-Equestrian Dressage. "As the current Dressage Committee is structured differently, we needed to create a 'leader judge' role to ensure that all judges follow the same line."

The Dressage Judge General's primary responsibilities will be to create and co-ordinate discussions among the judges, ensuring that all conclusions are communicated to FEI judges through FEI Headquarters and Course Directors. "The introduction of the Dressage Judge General role will significantly improve the judging process and we are now looking forward to working with Ghislain Fouarge to improve the clear judging lines based on the training scale and what is laid down in the FEI's Dressage Rules and Handbook," Asmyr said.

The FEI has also appointed Swedish O-judge Eric Lette, who retired from as FEI Dressage Committee Chairman in 2001 and then trained the Brazilian national team; British Dressage training director David Hunt; and German FEI 5* Judge Dieter Schuele to the Judges Supervisory Panel (JSP).The JSP was one of the recommendations of the Dressage Task Force, which was approved at the 2010 General Assembly in Taipei.

La FEI ha acelerado su consolidación para asegurar la imparcialidad en el juzgamiento del Adiestramiento al implementar al Juez Internacional “O” Judge Ghislain Fouarge al puesto de Juez General de Adiestramiento.

La creación de éste puesto de líder de jueces es para “asegurar mayor consistencia y presición en el juzgamiento en todos los niveles de competencia de Adiestramiento”.

Cuándo la creación de un Panel Supervisor de Jueces fue inicialmente propuesta, se sugirió que el panel tuviera permitido corregir las marcas otorgadas por los jueces por error de hecho como en las calificaciones técnicas definitivas.

Ghislain Fouarge, de Holanda fue elegido el mes pasado en el seminario de jueces 5* en Warendorf, Alemania.

Fouarge ha oficiado al máximo nivel del deporte, incluyendo los Juegos Olímpicos 2008 en Hong Kong, los Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales FEI 2006 en Aachen (ALE), los Juegos Ecuestres Mundiales Alltech FEI en Kentucky (EUA) y dos Finales de la Copa del Mundo FEI.

El primer período de oficio para el Juez General de Adiestramiento será de dos años, y la posición simepre la ocupará un juez 5* (antes “O”).

“Tradicionalmente siempre ha habido un juez de máximo nivel presidiendo el Comité FEI de Adiestramiento y ésta persona automáticamente tomaba el liderazgo en las discusiones relacionadas al juzgamiento,” dijo Trond asmyr, el Director FEI de Adiestramiento y Paraecuestre.

“Como el Comité actual está estructurado de forma diferente, necesitabamos crear un rol de “juez líder” para asegurar que todos los jueces sigan la misma línea.”

Las responsabilidades principales del Juez General de Adiestramiento será crear y coordinar discusiones entre los jueces, assegurando que todas las conclusiones sean comunicadas a los jueces FEI a través de la Oficina General de la FEI y Curso de Directores.

“La introducción de la posición de Juez General de Adiestramiento mejorará notablemente el proceso de juzgamiento y estamos entusiasmados de trabajar con Ghislain Fouarge para mejorar las líneas de juzgamiento basadas en la escala de entrenamiento y en las Reglas FEI de Adiestramiento y el Manual de Jueces,” dijo Asmyr.

La FEI también designó al juez “O” sueco Eric Lette al Panel Supervisor de Jueces (PSJ). Lette fue Presidente del Comité FEI de Adiestramiento hasta 2001 y después entrenó al equipo de Brazil; al director de entrenamiento de British Dressage; y al juez FEI 5* Dieter Schuele de Alemania.

El PSJ fue una de las recomendaciones que hizo la Dressage Task Force, que fue aprovada en la Asamblea General de la FEI en Taipei.
